AGM 2008 CHAIRMANS REPORT.
Ladies and gentlemen, my sincere apologies for missing the finals night and this AGM but due to unforeseen circumstances I have to remain in the UK for awhile longer. At the beginning of the season I decided to set the committee some aims and objectives for the league to achieve,
these were;
- Find more teams and expand the league.
- Bigger and better finals night with improved stage and lighting.
- A team knockout competition plus the usual men’s, ladies and pairs competitions.
- To invite a darts celebrity to Paphos for a special night.
- To set up a select team to play other areas of Cyprus.
All of these goals were achieved and at some point everyone has benefited from the sheer hard work and dedication of this committee.
My congratulations go to all the competition winners and to the players who were selected to represent the PDL.
As for next season, this is up to you, the members. It depends upon who you elect when the present committee step down tonight. If the same people are elected, you will get more of the same but always looking to improve, of course.
A friendly, social darts league, a good night out and building friendships, this is what the PDL is all about.
This brings me to my next point, the 1st division;
To me, it is abundantly clear that there is a big void between division 1 and the rest. From complaints and disputes to opinions on rules/format and the way things should be done generally.
Last year there was an attempt to break away by a group of players which failed and they were allowed to come back and form part of division 1 to play more serious darts. Now, along with new teams of the same mind, they have more stability.
I believe that now may be the time for these serious players to form their own committee and use all their experience and ideas to start their own new league affiliated to the federation. There is no reason that the two leagues should not co-operate together from time to time.
We as a committee have tried to run the PDL fairly. We have tried to nip problems in the bud, help teams where necessary, consider everyone’s feelings and make the right decisions.
We have given our time gladly and expect nothing in return except a little civility and respect, which in the main we have received, thank you.
Finally, ladies and gentlemen, I wish everyone the very best and hope that the outcome of this AGM is favourable to everyone who wishes to play darts in Paphos.
